David Falk Kollel

The David Falk Kollel operates under the auspices of the Joseph and Gwendolyn Straus Rabbinical Seminary. The David Falk kollel curricula include Talmud, Jewish Laws and Customs, Jewish Holidays, the Jewish Life Cycle, Tanach, Jewish Philosophy, and Mussar. First year students study the laws of Kashrut; in the second year the laws of Shabbat and Mourning are covered. In the third year, students learn the laws of Niddah and Mikvaot. All of these subjects are taught with an understanding of and sensitivity toward unaffiliated Diaspora Jewry and disenfranchised Israelis, while at the same time remaining uncompromisingly adherent to Halacha.

The daily schedule begins with a Gemara shiur, in which students study the massechet that is being studied in the yeshiva that year. Afternoons are devoted to the study of Halacha. Each Rabbinical student is also required to study in chevruta during two evening sedarim with a student from the yeshiva’s one-year program, which helps the rabbinical students hone their one-on-one teaching skills.

Summer break is from Tisha B’av until Rosh Chodesh Ellul. The students also have a break for the month of Nissan.
