Dear Friends and Alumni, As we embark on this new project, I look forward to the opportunity of learning together with you. For those of you who spent time learning in Israel together with me, I am especially excited at the prospect of being able to pick up where we left off. This year has brought me extensive travelling. The scope of the internet provides us with the means to stay in touch. After due consideration, it seemed to me that there might be an area where we could "meet", in which our particular interest might be expressed. I am referring to an interactive learning site. A "place" which would enable me to "learn" with former students and friends, to listen as well as to declaim, to absorb your comments as well as directing you to my own insights. I have decided to start by teaching Chumash with Rashi - doing the first Aliya each week. Most of us try to study the parasha, and Rashi is the commentary we are all devoted to. I know that many of you don't really need much help in the study of Rashi, but you may nevertheless find it interesting to note my particular slant on the text, and also perhaps to comment on other directions in interpretation. For those of you not as competent in the study of Rashi, I am sure that the presentation will be helpful and if there are any questions, please feel free. The format will evolve and become more and more user-friendly. If you can help me to change the form and make it more pleasing and useable, please send me those suggestions as well. As necessary, I will continue to write you these notes. Do not hesitate to do the same. Sincerely, Rabbi Chaim Brovender
